Note: SM Bus – System Management Bus. This is part of the chipset. So its controller and driver issues for it are resolved by installing your motherboard chipset drivers. Download Intel Chipset Drivers Manually Way 2. Download Intel Chipset Drivers Automatically.

• 'Windows could not find driver software for your device.' 'If you know the manufacturer of your device, you can visit its website and check the support section for driver software.' After looking thru the drivers at the HP website i cannot figure out which driver is for the SM Bus Controller.

I understand your concern about compatibility of the driver on Windows 10.

I suggest you to refer to the below link and check if the driver is compatible.

If not compatible, I suggest you to install the driver in compatibility mode on Windows 10.

You can install Windows 8/8.1 drivers in compatibility mode if there are no Windows 10 compatible drivers.

Follow the steps to install in Compatibility mode:

1. Download the updated driver from the manufacturer’s website.
2. Right click the driver installation file and select Properties then tap or click the Compatibility tab.
3. Place a check in the Run this program in compatibility mode for: box.
4. Tap the drop down box and select a previous operating system, then tap or click OK.
5. Try installing the driver and check.

Ran into the same problem. Solved the problem by:

1. Go into Device Manager

2. Expand Universal Serial Bus Controllers

Intel Sm Bus Controller Driver Windows 7

3. Right click on both Intel(R) 5 Series USB devices and uninstall them. As a result, all other USB devices are gone under the list.

Beware you would loss the use of your USB keyboard and mouse for the next step, restarting. Hopefully you have a keyboard or mouse with PS/2 connection.

4. Restart computer if still has use of keyboard or mouse, or use the reset button on computer front panel.

After restarting, windows 10 reinstalled the drivers for the 2 Intel(R) and all USB ports are working again.
