Update the driver

Many times, a problem with a Windows 10 compatible hardware all boils down to the driver. A simple update and the problem is fixed. You’ll need to download the latest driver from the manufacturer’s website.

In case you are using a gamepad that supports Windows 10 update the driver to its latest version.

If you are using an older gamepad that doesn’t fully support Windows 10, you may need to run the driver in Windows 7 or Windows 8 compatibility mode. To do this, download the gamepad driver, preferably the latest one, and right-click on the setup file, and then select Properties from the menu.

In the new window that pops up, search for compatibility tab, then click on “Run this program in compatibility mode.” From the drop-down menu, select either Windows 7 or Windows 8, and after that, complete the installation and restart the computer.

My HP computer running Windows 7 became erratic about recognizing the wireless mouse. When I checked the forum, I found others had the same problem of the computer not recognizing the driver. I followed the advice given by a Microsoft support engineer meghmala to delete all the drivers under Universal Serial Bus Controller, and restart the computer so that it would reinstall the drivers. Most of them appear to have been reinstalled, but t.he computer gave me an error message -- 'Universal Serial Bus doesn't have a driver'. I went over to the HP website and downloaded the latest chipset 'Intel USB Host Controller Driver' but I still get the same message. I have been, of course, restarting the computer between each effort.

So, do I need this 'Universal Serial Bus'? It sounds serious. If so. where do I get it? I've search the Microsoft website to the point of frustration, and I described above what I found at the HP website.

And then, of course, I still want to get the computer to recognized the wireless mouse.
